This is my parents’ favorite way to cook salmon, so they gifted us a cedar plank so we could try it too. If you’re into grilling, cedar planks are where it’s at. Grilling fish on a plank of wood infuses a smoky flavor that is to die for. The best way to cook salmon? Cedar plank salmon. Place the salmon on a serving platter to rest.You haven’t lived until you’ve tried cedar plank salmon! This easy method of grilling on a wooden plank infuses a smoky flavor that’s irresistible. Check it frequently to make sure the planks don’t catch fire.Flip them over, add the salmon, and let it cook for about 7 to 12 minutes. Cook the soaked planks on the grill grate for 4 minutes over medium-high heat (this will give you a more smoky flavor).Brush the salmon with the honey mixture.Remove the skin from the salmon, pat it dry with paper towels, and season it with salt and pepper.An optional sprinkle brings a touch of heat. As far as healthy salmon recipes go (and I have a bunch!), cedar plank salmon is one of my favorites. Keep a spray bottle (an inexpensive one like this is great) with water or apple juice near the grill to put out any flames. For a splurge, soak your cedar planks in a dry white wine.Įven with soaking, on a hot grill, the edges of the plank can still catch fire.Apple juice is my favorite liquid for soaking cedar planks, because it’s inexpensive and the apple works well with the cedar notes. While you can certainly use water for soaking the planks, an excellent way to up the quality of your dish is to use a more flavorful liquid. Heads up! The carryover cooking will bring the fish the rest of the way to the internal temperature. Use an instant read thermometer to check for doneness (whether using a gas grill or charcoal grill), then let it rest.
